Permalite® integral to Cook Islands outer island renewable energy program

The Cook Islands covers 2,200,000 km2 of ocean, and is located within a cyclonic region that are lashed by tropical storms 6 months of the year. This geographically diverse and remote project posed significant challenges in providing cyclone proof, long life, and corrosive resistant infrastructure as part of the program.
Permalite® Aluminium was a clear choice of supplier for McConnell Dowell contractors to provide the quality and robustness of products, innovative design and specialised construction techniques required for these facilities.
Permalite® Aluminium products were chosen for their exceptional combination of strength, durability and light weight, major benefits for economical transport costs and on site assembly. Permalite® personnel worked closely with project managers to determine the design, delivery logistics and sequence of erection specifically for buildings to house battery invertors on twelve of the fifteen islands.
Permalite® supplied, to full specification, the complete building package incorporating cyclonic design with everything from ceiling battens, roofing, rainwater goods, purlins to roof ventilators to suit the highly corrosive environments. The innovative lightweight truss sections were pre-punched allowing easy bolt connections of purlins to trusses ensuring straight roof lines and positive cyclonic tie down for the final product.

The coordinated project of packaging, export logistics and sequential delivery of all products across such wide spread and challenging environment was achieved with cost effectiveness and without compromise. All fulfilment criteria was accomplished with the required time frames and most importantly, on budget.
